To further increase our positive impact on the agribusiness sector of Southeast Asia, we are looking for a temporary consultant with experience in food processing, to be based in our Yangon office.  


The ideal applicant has significant work experience in designing, implementing and guiding food processing processes with regard to common vegetables and fruits produced in Myanmar, and ideally also in fish/aquaculture and livestock. In addition, the consultant is proficient in designing and facilitating (online) trainings based on needs assessments with training participants. The applicant needs to have a flexible attitude, being able to for example easily transform training designs to online training programs because of the current Covid-19 situation. The applicant has good analytical skills, is results driven and proactively takes on a different research and training assignments.

1. Job Identification:


Position title                         : Food Processing Consultant

Work period                         : 2 days a week, February – June (40 working days total)

Work location                       : Based in Yangon, Myanmar


2. Key Organizational Relationships:


Supervision                           : Project Managers of respective projects

Report to                               : Country Manager Myanmar


3. Summary of Responsibilities:


As a consultant, your main responsibility is to support the Yangon team with technical knowledge in several aspects of food processing processes (vegetables, fruits, livestock and fish) for research and training development. The consultant needs to have:

  • High level expertise in relevant food processing topics, developed through academic study, relevant training and experience in practice. Relevant topics include quality assurance, food safety, product development processes, key principles for design of production units, production planning, packaging, labelling, and relevant labor considerations for these processes.
  • Knowledge of and experience in guiding organizations/entrepreneurs towards processing quality assurance standards such as HACCP, BRC, IFS, etc.
  • In addition to these generic principles, more tailored technical knowledge for specific food processing processes would be an asset, such as drying and fermentation methods.
  • General knowledge on the existing market of food processing products in Myanmar; supply and demand for food processed products, key stakeholders in the sector, general knowledge level within the sector, market opportunities.
  • Extensive experience designing training materials and facilitating (online) trainings for a variety of participants, from extension staff, teachers and entrepreneurs. Experience with delivering Training of Trainers is a plus.
  • Strong research skills, including research design, data collection and analysis.



4. Task and Reponsibilities:


Your tasks would involve:


a)Supporting training development for several training projects focused on a wide variety of food processing topics, targeted at MoALI extension staff, teachers, business trainers and entrepreneurs.


b)Facilitation of (online) trainings in Myanmar language, including a Training of Trainers, likely to take place online.


c)Supporting market research on processed food products to identify the most prevalent processed food product categories in Myanmar and related research tasks.



As a consultant, we expect you to contribute with your technical expertise to three different projects. This means that you will work with several project teams. The estimated schedule is 2 days a week from February – June, but these days will have to be agreed and confirmed with the project managers. Increase of number of days per week could be a possibility when agreed between both parties.





Minimum requirement: a MSc in agriculture or food technology, or other business-related field of study, with a specialization and/or work experience in the agri-business or food processing sector.



  • At least 5 years of professional work experience in the food processing sector, preferably in fruits and vegetables. Experience in livestock and fish is a plus.
  • Experience developing and facilitating training programs, including online facilitation.
  • Experience with market research, conducting both qualitative and quantitative surveys and report writing.
