The role

To further increase our positive impact on the aquaculture sector in Myanmar, we are looking for a passionate aquaculture specialist to be based at our office in Yangon.

 

The aquaculture specialist is a self-motivated individual with high potential to technically support the implementation of our aquaculture projects, and to help the aquaculture department grow its activities in the field of consulting, research and technical services. As part of the multi-disciplinary Fresh Studio team, you will play a key role to change and transform the aquaculture industry in Myanmar.

 

This opportunity will fit well with candidates who:

  •     Have the ambition to make a difference in the aquaculture sector in Myanmar;
  •     Are able to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders (feed companies, farmers, traders, etc.);
  •     Like to share knowledge and experience with colleagues, to support the development of a team;
  •     Can work independently and knows how to set priorities.

 

The position would initially be for 6 months fulltime. Depending on the aquaculture portfolio and performance of the candidate, there is a possibility to extend.

 

Duties & responsibilities

  • Lead the technical implementation of our aquaculture projects. Amongst others, tasks involve:
    • Conducting field research using both quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques;
    • Guiding the process of technical upgrading and improving management practices of two hatcheries;
    • Guiding the process of setting up an applied research center including an applied R&D program;
    • Developing technical training programs for different audiences, facilitate the trainings;
    • Support setting up an extension system.
  • Implement other consultancy assignments in Myanmar, which includes:
    • Quantitative and qualitative research for market, value chain or feasibility studies
    • Developing and facilitating training programs
    • Technical assistance to farmers
    • Coordinate field experiments and technology tests;
  • Support acquisition for new projects by providing technical input

 

Desired qualifications and skills

  • BSc. Degree in aquaculture, marine science, agriculture, research or biology
  • At least 3 years practical experience in the field of aquaculture, having supported farmers and other industry stakeholder in improving their performance;
  • Experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies;
  • Familiar with project development and implementation.
  • Fluent in Burmese and English;
  • Excellent in both verbal and written communication
  • Analytical and critical thinking
  • Good social skills which enable to communicate well with partners and clients
  • Good presentation skills
  • Available to travel to field work sites across Myanmar and/or the region
  • Able to work in an international environment
