With fast-growing economies in South-East Asia and increasing household income levels, the expenditure on livestock products like milk, eggs, and meat is increasing. The production of livestock products is intensifying in Asia, but the production is still dominated by small-holder producers.
Similar to the crops and aquaculture sector the main challenge for the livestock sector in Vietnam and Myanmar is how to produce in a more sustainable way, and limit the over-application of antibiotics and growth hormones while keeping the outbreak of animal diseases under control.
To solve these challenges there is not one silver bullet. It requires an innovative approach covering all aspects of the production process, to identify opportunities to make changes to make the production process more sustainable.
