I. Job identification

Position title                     : Project Officer Agriculture

Work location                  : Southern Shan State (preferably Aung Ban)

II. Key Organizational Relationships

Report to                          : Project leader in Yangon

Supervise                          : Junior agronomist

III. Roles and responsibilities

The Project Officer Agriculture will support our consultant team with the local implementation of our agriculture programs in Southern Shan State. In this role, you will be responsible for piloting and testing improved crop production practices, and at the same time supporting farmers in improving their productivity, crop quality and incomes through training. You will also be responsible for data collection and monitoring the farmers’ performance, and reporting on our project indicators towards our clients.   

Your daily activities will consist of setting up crop demonstration plots, networking with farmer groups, farmer recruitment, and organizing and delivering agriculture crop trainings leading to direct results in farmers’ productivity and incomes. As Fresh Studio uses a value chain approach, you will be the link between farmers and their input providers, as well as with the buyers of their crops to ensure that the farmers’ production fits with market demand. In this role, you will work under close supervision of the project leader and consultant team based in Yangon.

This role is good for you if you:

  • Have the ambition to make a difference: to translate training materials into concrete results regarding farmer productivity, crop quality and income improvement
  • Have experience in designing demonstration plots and piloting innovations in crop production
  • Are a strong communicator who is able to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including farmers, input suppliers, traders, as well as donors and NGOs
  • Have a track record in data collection, indicator monitoring and reporting towards (international) NGOs
  • Enjoy travelling in rural areas

IV. Duties & responsibilities:

  • Design and management of demonstration plots
  • Networking with farmers groups and farmer recruitment for trainings
  • Organizing farmer trainings and field days
  • Delivering effective trainings to farmers, including practical sessions
  • Data collection, monitoring, reporting and evaluation
  • Supervising junior agronomist

V. Desired qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in agriculture or related field
  • Strong understanding of Myanmar’s agricultural sector and common challenges of farmers in Southern Shan State
  • Proven track record in designing and delivering farmer trainings
  • Experience in setting up and monitoring demonstration plots
  • Experience with potato, corn or soybean production is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in data collection, monitoring and reporting on project indicators for international NGOs/donors
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to communicate in English
  • Good social skills which enable easy communication with different agriculture stakeholders and clients
  • Good presentation skills
  • Result-oriented
  • Intellectually curious, hands-on, results-driven and pro-active – coming up with own ideas and suggestions

You will also be responsible for farmer recruitment and arranging local venues and logistics for our training program, ensuring that training delivery runs smoothly.   

Your daily activities will consist of monitoring crop demonstration plots, networking with and recruiting farmers, and organizing and delivering agriculture crop trainings leading to direct results in farmers’ productivity and incomes. As Fresh Studio uses a value chain approach, you support farmers in linking to input providers and buyers to ensure their crops meet market requirements.

In this role, you will work under close supervision of the project leader and consultant team based in Yangon, and collaborate closely with our Agriculture Project Officer based in Southern Shan State.
